Coach Roster
Josh Schoenfeld

Josh Schoenfeld began swimming at the age of eight for the Westfield YMCA in Westfield, NJ. A few years later he left the YMCA and joined the Cranford Gators in Cranford, NJ, swimming with some elite athletes such as Olympic Gold-Medalist Cullen Jones. During his time with the Gators, Josh also swam for Westfield High School’s varsity swim team, where he helped lead his team to three consecutive NJ State Championships. After graduating WHS, Josh continued his career swimming for The College of New Jersey. After college, burnt out from the countless hours in the pool over the last 14 years, Josh thought he would never swim again. However, when he moved to Berkeley in 2008, he just couldn’t help but enjoy the warm weather and got right back into swimming with a organized group of recreational swimmers, Fuego, at UC Berkeley, who he currently continues to swim with every day.

Josh first became involved with Tsunami after Suzanne Baker, the Tsunami synchro coach who also swims with Fuego, asked him to exploit himself during Tsunami Synchro/Swim fundraisers. He instantly felt welcomed by all the Tsunami swimmers and enjoyed spending time with some amazing Tsunamis. This led Josh to begin substitute coaching in the fall of 2009, and ultimately regularly coaching Monday night workouts. Coaching Tsunami offers a unique challenge -- developing a workout for a large range of skill levels. However, Josh’s long swimming career has prepared him to meet this challenge head on. Each practice, Josh tries to create a fun, but challenging workout that encompasses all levels, while still pushing each individual swimmer to work hard and get a great workout.
