This is Teresa’s debut year of coaching for the SF Tsunami, starting in the summer of 2010. At the age of seven Teresa’s parents signed her up for competitive swimming in an effort to combat her painful shyness and excessive energy. Upon swimming practices for only a few weeks and competing in her first meet both problems quickly evaporated. Teresa continued swimming from 1991-2002 year round at the age group level for the Delmar Dolfins in Albany County, New York. Throughout this time Teresa qualified multiple times for membership of the Adirondack Zone Swim Team where she competed and placed at the United States Swimming Eastern Zone Championships.
Teresa continued her swimming career at the scholastic level competing for four years as a Lady Eagle for Bethlehem Central High school at the Varsity level. During this time Teresa competed and placed in four sectional meets as well as qualifying for New York State Public School Athletic Association State Championships. During the summers of 1996-2002 while she was not teaching swimming lessons or lifeguarding Teresa was practicing for Empire State Games where she competed and placed as a qualified member of the Adirondack Region team.
After graduation from high school she went on to continue her swimming career at the NCAA Division I level at Canisius College in Buffalo, New York where she held the School Record in 200 Butterfly for multiple seasons. Throughout these and many summer’s to follow Teresa moved from the pool to the deck where she coached summer league swimming.
After graduating with a Bachelor’s of Arts in Psychology while working on her Master’s of Science in Community Mental Health Counseling at The College of Saint Rose, Teresa returned back to her age group team, the Delmar Dolfins. Teresa hung up her goggles and remained on deck as a member of the coaching staff where she enthusiastically coached and motivated age group swimmers. At this time, Teresa also expanded her coaching experiences to the scholastic level where she coached modified swimming for the The Enlarged City School District of Troy. Upon graduation from The College of Saint Rose Teresa continued coaching at night while working as a Primary Mental Health Clinician in the hospital setting.
After moving to San Francisco to pursue a Doctor of Psychology Degree in Clinical Psychology Teresa decided to make a splash back in the pool; joining the San Francisco Tsunami in the spring of 2010. She never let go of her love of swimming and is happy to be with others who share the same competitive spirit and drive for the sport.
