Coach Roster
Waifa Chau

I first started swimming with Tsunami in July 2002. After not being in the water for four years, I felt it was time to go back to something I really enjoyed and loved.

I learned how to swim at age 14, the summer before entering high school. Having never been in the water, I joined the community swim team and began reading books on swimming and proper techniques. My swimming career blossomed during my 4 years in high school while swimming for my high school team. I felt like I finally found my niche, especially since I had no problems getting up at 6:00 a.m. on a cold Saturday morning for 4 years to make it to practice. One of the biggest motivators was my coach, Judy Montalbano. She has made me into the swimmer and coach I am today.

Unfortunately in college at NYU, I was not able to fit swimming into my schedule and had left the pool. The summer months allowed me some time to coach an age group team which opened me up to the other side of swimming.

After college, I moved to San Francisco. As a transplant from the East Coast, I spent most of my time and energy on work, getting settled and meeting new people. It finally dawned on me that I should start swimming again. My first practice with Tsunami showed me what a great team it was and the people made all the difference.

Three months into swimming, I thought "Hey, maybe I could coach a Masters Team?" So far, it has been fun yet challenging, as I'm still learning everything I can about swimming and coaching. My aim as a coach is to do whatever I can to help my swimmers achieve their goals, and of course, have fun doing it!

Happy Swimming!!!
