COVID Reopening Protocol

Updated September 2, 2020

The Board has developed this reopening protocol to facilitate Tsunami’s return to the pool, while maintaining the health and safety of our membership and the community at large.  This protocol will be updated to comply with forthcoming guidance from the City and County of San Francisco.
It is imperative that swimmers follow this protocol to ensure the continued viability of workouts.  Please review closely.  Swimmers who violate the protocol will receive one warning before being suspended from Tsunami for six months.

Before Workout
  • We understand that some swimmers may have COVID-19 risk factors, or otherwise not feel comfortable returning to swim practice.  While your participation is welcome, we understand and support any decisions to postpone your return to the water.  Swimmers should do what is in their best interest given their individual circumstances.
  • We anticipate limited swimming slots in the initial stages of reopening.  Swimmers must register to swim and obtain a slot on MindBody in order to attend.  Swimmers must also review and agree to the updated waiver on MindBody.  Billing will be on a pay-per-swim basis.  Depending on how many slots are available, the Board may limit the number of workouts swimmers may attend each week or month.  Swimmers who reserve a spot but are unable to attend must cancel more than 72 hours in advance; no-shows will be considered a violation of this policy and may result in suspension from the team.
  • Swimmers must complete a self-questionnaire before coming to practice.  If you answer yes to any of the self-survey questions, you may not attend practice and must cancel your MindBody reservation.  Self-survey questions:  (1) Have you tested positive for COVID-19 in the past 14 days?  (2) Have you had close contact with someone who tested positive for COVID-19 in the past 14 days?  (3) Have you had one or more of the following symptoms over the last 24 hours:  fever over 100.4F, chills, cough, diarrhea, difficulty breathing, shortness of breath, tiredness/fatigue, muscle/body aches, headache, sore throat, loss of smell/taste, persistent runny nose different from allergies?

At Workout
  • Swimmers must arrive exactly five minutes before the workout start time and line up outside of the pool, six feet apart.  Swimmers must wear masks until the workout begins.  Swimmers must be prepared to confirm that they have completed the self-survey and answered no to all three questions.  Swimmers may be subject to a temperature check.
  • A maximum of one swimmer may swim in each lane (exceptions for members of the same household). If two swimmers are eventually allowed in a lane, swimmers must start at opposite ends of the pool and may not stop at the same end of the pool at the same time.  Once admitted, swimmers must go directly to the assigned lane and end of the pool and leave their belongings at their assigned end of the pool.  Swimmers must arrive at the pool ready to swim, as changing will not be allowed at the pool.
  • Swimmers may not use facility kick boards or pull buoys, but may bring their own.  Swimmers must bring their own hand sanitizer, in case it is unavailable at the pool, and water, as there will be no drinking fountain access.
  • Locker rooms will be closed.  No more than one swimmer may use the bathroom at a time.

After Workout
  • Swimmers must follow City protocol for exiting the pool after workout, including wearing masks.  Swimmers may not change at the pool and must immediately collect their belongings and leave.
  • If you test positive for COVID-19 within 14 days after attending a swim workout, you must immediately notify president@sftsunami.org.
